Configurable 'black box' for third-party telematics systems
A highly-configurable on-board GPS 'black box' for use in third-party vehicle tracking applications has been launched by BOX telematics, one of the UK's longer-standing manufacturers in this sector. The new GPS/GPRS device, BOX-tracker, is said to have been engineered specifically for the fleet and asset tracking industry. It features numerous over-the-air programmable parameters to give users control of their devices and to provide 'on-the-fly' configurability. The company says data sent over GPRS is kept as small as possible to keep data costs to a minimum. The product will be supplied in two versions – a wired-in version for permanent installation in vehicles, and an 'unplugged' battery-operated version for greater flexibility. BOX-tracker is also available as a 'white-label' solution that telematics companies can supply under their own branding. The product is manufactured near Birmingham Airport by National Service Hub (NSH), an operating company within the BOX telematics group, and incorporates modem and receiver technology from Telit.
