Carbon Minimiser now part of Paragon package
Carbon Minimiser, which was previewed in the feature article on fuel economy in our last issue (m.logistics, issue 36), is now part of the routing and scheduling optimisation software system from Paragon. The system aims to optimise route efficiency in terms of fuel used and associated carbon emissions. It takes account of slower urban journeys, which incur more fuel/CO2 per mile than faster motorway journeys, and also the extra fuel consumption and emissions of heavier vehicles. The result: what the company describes as carbon-friendly schedules. 'Fuel consumption also depends on other factors, such as driving style, vehicle age, weather conditions and so on,' admits software development director Richard Street, 'but vehicles will still use more fuel per mile if they are heavily laden or travelling at slow speeds.'
