Compact on-board computer with Atom processor
Compact on-board computer with Atom processor

For anyone configuring an on-board computer or tracking system, a new hardware option is on offer from Nexcom in the form of the VTC 6000, a fanless in-vehicle computer using the new Intel Atom microprocessor.

Two versions of the processor are offered – the 1.1Ghz and 1.6Ghz – both with 1GB of DDR memory. The company says that because of the very low power consumption of the Intel Atom processor, it has been possible to make the design is more compact than previous devices, even though it can handle a wider operating temperature range than ever (minus 30 deg C to plus 60 deg C).

GPS can be built in, in addition to GSM, GPRS, 802.11b/g/n wireless local networking and 3.5G. Other features include power ignition delay control, low-power protection and SMBus connection.

An interesting feature is the availability of separate outputs for drivers and passengers, allowing different information to be fed to an on-board TV or VGA screen, for instance.
