Powys tracks council fleet
![]() Powys Council is to start tracking utility vehicles such as refuse collection, street-light repair vehicles and gritters and gully emptiers for the first time in order to monitor their job status and improve performance. The organisation has chosen Cybit to provide the system, which will be rolled out to its fleet of 450 specialist maintenance, logistics and construction vehicles. The contract has been placed under the 'framework agreement' for council spending, and is said to be one of the first of this nature to be signed. Drivers and fleet managers will now be able to see which roads have been visited by maintenance vehicles on an on-screen map, and identify those that still need to be serviced. The organisation also sees benefits in terms of maintaining the safety of crews and increasing the security from the risk of theft. Councillor Geraint Hopkins, who has responsibility for fleet management at the council, adds: 'We will also be able to carry out in-depth route reviews for all operations and collect asset information, which will help us further optimise the use of our fleet and increase our efficiency.' Following its acquisition of public sector specialist Amatics a year ago, Cybit has created a separate division devoted entirely to the public sector.
