Remote diagnostics and performance alerting from Trimble MRM
Fleet managers should be able to make more effective use of vehicle performance data gathered from tracking systems with a new product from Trimble Mobile Resource Management. Trimble Vehicle Diagnostics, now in version 2.0, is said to have been designed to allow customers to drill down and see exactly how well their vehicles are working, as well as sending them reports of potential problems in real time. Information captured and reported includes potential vehicle maintenance issues, possible problems and their cause, and excessive and unexpected fuel consumption (measured though tracking of speeding and idling). The system is also said to help with conformance to health and safety requirements and duty of care requirements. The system uses a small piece of hardware, which is installed in the vehicle. It plugs into the on-board EOBD engine port and connects with the Trimble Vehicle Tracking device that is already installed in the vehicle. This transmits diagnostic information to operators securely over the Internet.
