Tougher scanner from Honeywell
![]() Honeywell has launched a tougher version of its 3800 barcode scanner for warehousing, distribution and tough industrial environments. The 3820i has been drop-tested to withstand fifty drops on to hard concrete from six and a half feet (two metres) – better than many typical devices – and is IP54-certified for water and dust ingress. The battery is said to be good for 50,000 scans on a single charge, or over 16 hours' use – enough to work over two shifts before requiring a charge. And it's backed by a three-year warranty. In its basic functions the new unit is said to be similar to the 3800, and includes the same Adaptus Imaging Technology 5.0. Wireless communication is handled via Bluetooth version 2.0, which is said to allow a maximum range of 33 ft (10 m) between the scanner and the base.
