UK-built telematics box
A UK-built in-vehicle hardware device called BOX-tracker, designed for use with third-party tracking systems, has been launched by BOX telematics. It incorporates GPS/GPRS modem and receiver technology from Telit, and is said to have been engineered specifically to suit the needs of the fleet and asset tracking industry. Features include a range of over-the-air programmable parameters to give users remote control of their devices and on-the-fly configurability. Two versions are being offered – a 'plugged' model that can be installed semi-permanently in any type of vehicle, and an 'unplugged' battery-operated version for any type of tracking. The device is available as a 'white label' product, and bespoke branding and colour options are available. BOX Telematics is making strong play of the fact that the device is UK-manufactured. It is assembled by National Service Hub, an operating division of the company based near Birmingham Airport. BOX telematics' managing director Steve Hollender says its launch 'is a clear indicator that niche manufacturing in the UK is on the up.'
