Parcel giant UPS is celebrating the first anniversary of its desktop consignment tracking tool, UPS Widget, whose animated Widget character may be familiar to some readers.

The company says Widget is being installed on 25,000 new desktops a month in Europe alone, and is being used in those countries around 600,000 times a month. Three more countries have now been added to those where it is available – the Czech Republic, Italy and Poland – making nine in all.

The software gives fast access to UPS consignment tracking, and also has various generic functions. It can provide automatic updates from the user's favourite Web sites via RSS feeds, and also serves as a consignment cost calculator and shipment manager.
