April/May 2002 Amicus tracking system launched A comprehensive vehicle tracking, location and management system called Amicus has been launched by 3D Information Systems. The full package can include GPS unit and modem, on-board "black box" and interactive driver display, plus PC-based management software. Drivers are identified by a unique smartcard-style module. Data can be downloaded in real time via GSM, or retrospectively when the vehicle returns to base. Initial publicity particularly targets the fleet car market, majoring on features such as tax liability monitoring and fuel efficiency, but the company is it is equally appropriate to goods vehicles. Technical support is being provided by Siemens Wireless.
