Telematics consultancy launched
If you're bewildered by the profusion of telematics systems now appearing on the market, you might gain enlightenment from a brand new UK-based consultancy, GoTelematics, which was launched on 1 May. Behind it is Ken Evans, who will be well-known to many in the transport business as former head of VeMIS, the on-board computing specialist that is now part of the DaimlerChrysler group. Having left the company last year, he has now returned to the industry in an advisory role. "We can offer all kinds of help to users, from a broad systems appraisal to a detailed implementation plan," he told m.logistics.
He says there are at least 40 suppliers now selling into this market, "but only about twenty per cent of them will come anywhere near to meeting your actual needs, and of these, just two or three will be viable, growing, long-term suppliers." His firm's objective, he says, is to address "the oversupply and fluidity in the market", and to help dispel "the confusion and scepticism".
