April/May 2002 Security for corporate PDA network A novel security product for devices running Microsoft's Pocket PC has been launced by Pointsec Mobile Technologies. It features a combination of picture-based access controls, user authentication and data encryption. The access controls prevent illicit use of the device, and also stop an unauthorised user from uninstalling the security software itself. Among them is a technology called PicturePIN Authentication, in which log-in codes are made up of image sets (pictures), which are said to make log-in PINs easy to remember but difficult to uncover. The automatic 128-bit and 256-bit AES user-transparent data encryption means that data stored on removable media is automatically encrypted without user intervention. An encrypted removable media card simply appears blank when placed in a rogue device.
