April/May 2002 Ready-any-time portable printer Automatic power management has been incorporated in the FP40+ rugged portable thermal printer from Radix. Already introduced in the FP40I infra-red version, the system means the printer is ready to spring into action at any time (unless charging). The FP40+ has a standard nine-pin D-type RS232 interface, which is compatible with many handheld, palmtop and laptop computers, as well as with many control and instrumentation products. Both printers are powered by an internal, rechargeable battery, and are said to be able to work for a full day, even in sub-zero temperatures. As an option, extra-powerful capacity batteries of 1,000mAH can be supplied, giving improved usage time. A variety of paper stock for tickets and labels is available, including a very strong waterproof, tear-resistant paper that is said to be virtually indestructible. Radix can also supply customised, pre-printed paper, tickets and adhesive labels, carry cases and vehicle mounts.
