April/May 2002 Psion Teklogix announces Oracle link Psion Teklogix has gained approval from Oracle for a range of its portable devices to operate directly with Oracle Mobile Supply Chain Applications and Oracle Warehouse Management, both components of the Oracle E-Business Suite. Psion Teklogix says the benefits include substantially lower system maintenance costs for users, and a significant reduction in overall software expense. The arrangement relates to both automatic data collection and mobile computing. Models covered include Teklogix 7030 and 7035 user-programmable handheld computers, and Teklogix 8255, 8260, and 8570 wireless client-server vehicle-mount computers. The vehicle-mount models are rugged, colour touch-screen computers with range of processors extending up to Pentium III, and are typically used in put-away, replenishment, picking, shipping, and container and cargo tracking applications. and creates dedicated mobile division Psion Teklogix has set up a dedicated mobile computing unit, and says it has allocated additional funding to its partner program to help develop products for what it calls "core mobile computing market segments". Among key products in this initiative is the netpad, a distinctive handheld device launched by the company late last year, which is intended to bridge the gap between rugged industrial computers and professional consumer devices. The four key markets now identified by Psion Teklogix are field sales, field service, data capture and track, trace and delivery.
