Rentokil Initial installs Datatrak fleet-wide
In one of the biggest implementations of automatic vehicle location in the UK this year, Rentokil Initial is installing the Siemens Datatrak AVL system in 1,500 vehicles nationwide. Most of them are light vans, and belong to several subsidiary companies. Rentokil Pest Control is taking 400 systems, Initial Textile Services 650 and Initial Healthcare 500. Rentokil says the underlying objectives include improving response times and service levels, and monitoring the location and security of vehicles and drivers. It says it has chosen the Datatrak system following pilot operations in its medical services division. Rentokil Wiper Services has been using the Datatrak system for the past five years in 45 of its vehicles, and Initial Medical Services has used it for three years in 95 of its vehicles. Siemens Datatrak says it now has an installed base of 24,000 vehicles. Customers include Avis, Europcar, Arcade, Staffordshire Ambulance, Securicor Cash Services, Saints Transport and Target Worldwide Express.
