Low-cost WMS and tracking

Recognising that some companies are deterred from introducing data capture technology because of the perceived complexity of implementing it, Wokingham-based Codegate has produced a range of off-the-shelf software packages that include asset tracking and warehouse management.

Codegate's expertise is in barcode technology and data capture, and one of the features of its new Easystores warehouse management and inventory tracking software is that it automatically produces barcode labels as goods are received, and uses barcoding to track inventory. There are three versions at prices ranging from £2,395 to £3,495.

At the heart of all three is Transaction Manager, a middleware layer which controls the flow of data to and from the host system, and to and from front-end data collection devices. Flat field transactions are posted to and from the In and Out boxes on the host PC.

Transactions can include orders, delivery notes and pick lists. Other modules, which can be standard or optional, include ODB database links, batch and wireless communications management, and print and report management.

The same barcode expertise underlies Easytrak, which is for fixed-asset tracking. Prices for this start at £795 for a notebook version, rising to £2,350 for a PC version with label printer.
