More flexible development tool

Developers building their own mobile comms applications now have a more flexible tool at their disposal from iAnywhere, the Sybase subsidiary.

Version 8.0.2 of its SQL Anywhere Studio mobile data management and enterprise synchronisation solution introduces new features such as support for Microsoft .NET. This is said to help developers write synchronisation logic in the .NET language of their choice, enhancing the capabilities of the company's MobiLink bi-directional synchronisation system.

The MobiLink feature has itself been enhanced with a monitoring tool providing detailed information about the synchronisation performance. This is said to allow administrators to track synchronisation speeds and optimise the performance of their synchronisation servers.

Version 8.0.2 allows developers to take advantage of what is known as the UltraLite Component Suite to simplify mobile application development. This is said to allow the creation of application-optimised databases as small as 75 to 100K.

UltraLite supports a whole range of popular development tools for mobile and handheld devices, including AppForge MobileVB, the Insignia Jeode Java VM, Microsoft Visual Basic and Microsoft Embedded Visual Basic.

There are also significant security and performance enhancements in the new version. "Communication-stream encryption" has been enhanced to support two key standards, TLS and RSA standards, bolstering the security of critical information as it travels between the server and the mobile or client device.

The new version is available at no additional charge to existing SQL Anywhere Studio 8 customers.
