UK launch for Intermec terminal
Intermec's 700-series Pocket PC-based handheld terminal is now officially available in Europe, following previews and a US launch earlier this year. Its big selling point on its announcement was that it was the first device of its kind to combine a colour display, GSM and GPRS communications, 802.11b networking and Bluetooth networking in a single device. Its specifications put it at the top of the range in capabilities. It uses the most powerful available Intel Xscale 400MHz processor, and comes with 64MB of RAM as standard (128MB optional), plus 32 MB of ROM. It is powered by 2000 mAh li-ion batteries, giving a shift-length life of 6 to 10 hours between recharging. Integral features include and serial, USB and Ethernet connections, while various one- and two-dimensional barcode scanner options are offered. It has a 97mm (3.8in) reflective TFT colour display and 23-key keyboard. Optional features (apart from wireless LAN connectivity) include a digital imager capable of taking photographs - offered as a no-cost alternative to a standard barcode scanner.
