ITIS and NavTech real-time navigation
Traffic monitoring company ITIS Holdings has teamed up with mapping specialist NavTech to offer a dynamic navigation system that can re-route drivers round traffic hotspots. NavTech map data is used in many in-vehicle telematics and guidance systems. The traffic information collected by ITIS is delivered to the in-vehicle navigation system via RDS/TMC traffic messaging channel. The information can now be incorporated in NavTech map data, so drivers can actually see exactly where current congestion problems are on the navigation map. ITIS uses its Floating Vehicle Data technique to measure traffic flow around strategic UK routes. This system analyses data collected from fleets of vehicles (including, from this month, the AA's fleet of 3,600 patrol vehicles). Meanwhile, map data containing the ITIS information is also available for use by organisations in their own telematics or route-planning services. Kingswood MapMechanics is offering the ITIS data with either NavTech street-level map data or AA 1:200,000 vector (scalable) road network data.
