Tough terminal, rugged notebook from Itronix

An extra-tough handheld terminal has been added to the GoBook range from Itronix, targeting field staff working in especially harsh environments. It has a high dust- and water-resistant rating of IP67, and can stand multiple drops on to concrete from 2 metres (Mil Spec 810E). It is encased a die-cast magnesium housing, yet still weighs a reasonable 750g.

The Q100 is supplied with both full Windows CE and Pocket PC 2000 operating systems, selectable according to requirements. It uses a 206MHz Intel StrongARM processor, and comes with 64MB or RAM and 32MB of Flash ROM. Connectivity features include an IrDA infra-red port and Type II or III PC card slot.

Itronix has also added a new notebook PC to its rugged GoBook range. It is called the GoBook Pro, and is falls between the basic model and the GoBook Max (featured in Evaluation, Issue 3). It weighs 2.4kg with batteries, and is rated to Mil Spec 810E. It comes as standard with Windows 2000 (Windows XP optional).
