Access SAP from your mobile
You can access data in your organisation's SAP enterprise resource planning system with a mobile phone from anywhere in the world, thanks to a joint venture involving two key players in the communications market. MobileSys, a US-based company, is a specialist in global wireless data networks and gateways, and provides secure delivery of data worldwide from business applications to most wireless devices, including digital mobile phones, PDAs and pagers. StreamServe of Sweden claims to be the only company to provide an independent platform for the bi-directional exchange of critical business information in any channel or format. Their joint offering allows bi-directional communication between mobile phones and SAP systems. Typical uses would include requesting real-time inventory level data from SAP, creating sales orders from a mobile into SAP, and providing mobile information and transaction services internally or to customers.
Peter Rogers, MobileSys general manager for Europe, says customers have been requesting this facility for some time.
