Tele Atlas has signed a three-year contract to supply the RAC with digital maps for its roadside assistance service, following a successful pilot by RAC call centres.

The Tele Atlas Multinet data digital map (said to be the largest uniform digital map in the World) has been tested alongside RAC's call centre technology to help pinpoint the exact location of customers. RAC has also installed supplementary information to the mapping data, such as postcodes and additional points of interest that give more detailed information to call centre staff.

Multinet is now available in Shapefile format. This is a ready-to-use standard format that makes it easier to integrate with geographical information system (GIS) applications.
