Solar-powered trailer tracking system
A solar-powered GPS unit for trailers has been developed by wireless specialist Triteq and Box Telematics. Both the spotonBOX trailer monitoring unit and the Triteq GPS location module are powered by solar batteries, which use natural daylight to recharge. The BOX unit can locate and identify vehicles and be programmed to monitor incidents such as door openings or temperature variations. It can also transmit an alarm to a receiving centre, to a stand-alone PC or even to a mobile phone. The system can be programmed to permit legal movements, so if a trailer is scheduled to be moved at a specific time and date, no alarm will be raised, even though the unit is still being tracked.
