Tesco completes Isotrak rollout

Tesco has completed the rollout of the real-time Isotrak fleet management system across 1,350 vehicles and 23 distribution centres.

The first Isotrak system was installed 18 months ago, and the 23 distribution centres now all use common processes for delivery scheduling to Tesco's 740 stores, as well as for allocating work and measuring of performance to improve efficiency.

Tesco distribution director Stuart Ross says the roll-out programme was completed on schedule in just 18 months, and was kept within the original budget.

The Isotrak system includes an in-cab computer in each vehicle to monitor vehicle performance and location, handheld computers for the drivers, in-cab printers, and software for distribution centres to allocate resource to jobs and monitor their actual progress against plans. Common software means each distribution centre manages transport according to standard procedures. Isotrak trained more than 600 administrators and 6,000 drivers in using the system.
