Transco rolls out record-breaking field service network
Transco, the company that now looks after the UK's domestic gas supply network, is rolling out a major mobile data network to handle its nationwide team of 9,000 field service engineers, despatchers and supervisors. The organisation is believed to have the largest mobile workforce in Britain, and one of the largest in Europe, so the solution also represents a milestone in mobile data applications. Transco has chosen MDSI's Advantex r7 mobile workforce management solution to run the system, and XcelleNet to provide the software and device management infrastructure. Mobile access will be handled by Itronix mobile tablet computers and PocketPC-based PDAs. The system will also incorporate a geographic information system, corporate intranet content and other third-party software applications.
