Goodyear adopts Psion Teklogix at TyreFort
When your warehouse covers 500,000 sq ft and houses up to a million tyres, most of which have to be available for next-day delivery, keeping track of stock and fork-lift truck movements is critical. Goodyear Dunlop, which has installed an SAP-fronted spread-spectrum wireless local-area network at its newly opened TyreFort distribution centre in Birmingham, has chosen Psion Teklogix to provide vehicle-mounted computers for managing stock movements. The centre operates 24 hours, and has 47 loading bays handling up to 84 loads a day. It is using 8570 ruggedised Windows-based vehicle-mounted computers. The 8570 has a Pentium III processor power, complies with the 802.11b standard and meets NATO military specifications for shock and vibration resistance. The large 12in screen is a high-resolution, internally backlit colour TFT display.
