Combined Mobius computer from Cadec
A new version of the Mobius TTS on-board computer has been launched by US-based Cadec Corporation, combining processing functions and driver display in a single unit. Cadec is claiming the updated unit has more power and functionality than any rival system. Since the turn of the year the Mobius range has been offered in the UK by Lubrizol Performance Systems, a subsidiary of an Ohio-based fluid control specialist company. Lubrizol is offering a full package of supporting products including office-based software, third-party handheld equipment with point of delivery software, communications software and a variety of other third-party devices. The new unit features a 32-bit RISC Intel StrongARM processor, a total of 96 MB of on-board memory, a 12-channel GPS unit, two PCMCIA PC Card slots and four RS232 serial ports. There are 18 digital and analogue switch inputs and outputs for recording and control of auxiliary devices. The unit runs under Windows CE. The driver display features an LCD touch screen display, sunlight-readable for day, and backlit for night viewing. For communications, Cadec says Mobius supports a variety of technologies including GPRS and 3G phone systems. In the US, it says most data transfer is currently handled by 802.11b wireless local-area networking.
