Adaptus takes HHP into fourth-generation imaging
Separate branding is the order of the day for the latest decoding and image processing technology from HHP (formerly Hand Held Products). The group has created the name Adaptus for its new imaging system, and is to make it available on other manufacturers' hardware as well as on its own. It also has its own dedicated Web site. Adaptus used three "technology building blocks", the company says. These are its Imageteam 4000 miniature imaging engine, its proprietary computing architecture, and what it terms a fourth-generation decoding and image processing system. The company says this combination provides aggressive read rates and depths of field on ID, stacked and linear matrix codes. So far Adaptus is available on a selection of HHP's more recent linear and area scanning hardware, including for instance the Dolphin 9500 handheld terminal. It has also been provided as standard on the new Imageteam 5800 handheld pistol-grip industrial imager. The IT5800 is said to capture barcode images and process their content 270 times per second at distances up to 82in (208cm). It is environmentally sealed to an IP54 rating, is built to withstand repeated drops from 6.5ft, and can operate at temperatures down to minus 30 deg C.
