Faster route calculation and image display, more accurate geocoding, and easier integration via ODBC protocols with external databases - these are among the improvements claimed for the new version 3.0 of Drill Down Server, the software from Telcontar that aims to help businesses create location-based services.

The new version also makes it easier for developers to integrate traffic information in their products - supporting features such as real-time traffic flow monitoring and re-routing around congested road segments.

DDS is used by developers to create applications such as fleet tracking, trip planning, navigation, real-time traffic information and emergency roadside assistance.

A typical customer, Pharos Science and Applications, says it is using the system for developing real-time traffic applications and other wireless Internet applications for Microsoft Windows-powered Pocket PC phones, smart phones and other wireless mobile devices.
