Subscription-based mobile data service
A subscription-based mobile data service being developed by Telepartner Systems has received a shot in the arm in the form of a Smart Award from the Department of Trade and Industry. The award aims to help small and medium-sized businesses to develop innovative products and processes. ServiceNet is aimed at the self-same SME market. It aims to allow companies to communicate with field workers in real time over GPRS networks. It will be offered for a small monthly charge per field operative, and will be available either on Pocket PC devices or as a Java application for smart mobile phones. Businesses can configure their own mobile applications to suit individual requirements with the easy-to-use on-screen forms, opting for features such as message delivery confirmation, job acceptance, ETA on site, arrival, parts used and job closure. The application is downloaded wirelessly to the field device, and changes can be made through the same Web browser mechanism whenever needed. Real-time staff location to within 100 metres, using cell-site location and displaying the information through on-screen mapping, is available as an option.
