Secure container tracking in thirty seconds
A self-contained, independently-powered device called tripLOCK that combines remote tracking with security monitoring has been launched by UK company Aeromark, which is aiming it particularly at trailers and ISO freight containers. The device is about the size of a large book and weighs 4.5kg, and the company says it can be mounted securely on the back door of a truck body or container in under half a minute. GPS and GSM units are incorporated within the rugged housing. The device is described as self-activating, and once in use, can be polled by the operator via a secure Web site to report on the unit's position and any events that are being monitored. The company says it can supply the device with "almost any" kind of sensor that might be needed. Power is provided by high-performance rechargeable batteries, which are said to have a working life of at least 30 days between charges. Aeromark already supplies a software package called esinc to manage a range of tracking and location functions. The tripLOCK is said to be designed to complement this.
