FleetWave helps tackle congestion charging

The FleetWave fleet management system from Chevin Fleet Solutions has played an indispensable role in helping London-based The Paper Company to cope with the demands of the London congestion charging scheme.

According to group logistics manager Steve Rowson: "With FleetWave we're evolving our system for tracking congestion charging, since we can configure it and add fields as we go. For instance, we've put in a special field for fines. It already had a system for tracking trips and loads, and now that we're considering using 'charge-free' gas-powered vehicles, we'll simply add fields as we go to make sure we don't get charged or fined in error."

The company is also using FleetWave to tackle the task of logging and calculating car drivers' P11D 'benefit', which arises whenever they make private trips into the zone.

"Our head of payroll is simply able to draw off the P11D."

The company has a mixed fleet of 510 trucks and cars at various locations nationwide. As Rowson puts it: "We needed a system to track when vehicles have been into the charging zone, as I don't trust the official monitoring system for a minute!"

FleetWave is promoted as the world's first Web-based fleet management system, and is now also available in a pay-as-you-go version. Chevin is better known for its top-selling desktop fleet management packages, RoadBASE and Easy-Fleet 250.
