Intellident announces barcode pen scanner

A mobile barcode pen scanner has been launched by Intellident. It is compatible with the company's Assetrak family of data-capture products, linking with the outside world via a Bluetooth wireless connection.

The pen can operate both in batch mode and in real time, uploading data via Bluetooth directly to an external application hosted on a PC or handheld terminal. In batch mode it is said to be able to store up to 1,500 separate scans before download.

The company says the scanner can decode common UPC and EAN standard barcodes, serving as an alternative to dedicated barcode readers or handheld scanners.

It is said to be able to scan over 2,000 barcodes from a single battery charge, providing ample capacity for typical stock-take/despatch consignments, as well as offering a useful solution in proof-of-delivery and system maintenance applications.

Intellident says the pen scanner has been used successfully with various Bluetooth-connected laptops and handheld PDAs including models from the Hewlett-Packard iPaq and Sony Clié ranges.

  • Intellident's Assetrak front-end RF data capture product, originally devised for DOS and terminal-emulation handhelds, has been updated to encompass both Windows CE3 and Palm OS 4/5 operating platforms systems.
