What's special about these collapsible returnables boxes? They have Intellident RFID (radio frequency identification) tags integrated into them. They've been developed by packaging specialist Linpac Materials Handling for horticultural product handling company Trans-aqua. The Q-box is said to reduce product damage associated with cardboard packing and eliminate disposal costs. Boxes can be assembled in a variety of configurations, and simply collapse for the return part of the journey. The embedded Intellident RFID tag allows multiple boxes to be scanned simultaneously as they move through a MultiScanner portal and on to delivery vehicles a much faster process than the previous operation, which involved scanning each tray by handheld or fixed-position scanners.
