Amtrak drivers can look up addresses on the spot
Amtrak Express Parcels drivers delivering parcels can check the address of any item on a handheld computer in a trial scheme under way at the company. The system is built round Dolphin 7300 handheld computers by HHP and specialist software by Littlefoot. According to Phil Young, Amtrak's head of IT: "We have piloted the system at three of our depots, and it is already making our drivers' jobs much easier." The solution uses labels bearing two-dimensional barcodes, and checks the information in them against the full UK postcode database - which is said to improve the efficiency and speed of deliveries.
