UK asks for delay on digital tachographs
The UK Government has formally requested the European Commission to delay the introduction of digital tachographs. Transport minister David Jamieson has written to the EC asking for a new deadline later than August 2004, warning that uncertainty about availability of the equipment could result in some member states taking different enforcement action from different dates."Both member states and the industry need a clear statement and lead from the Commission. Without it we face legal and enforcement problems that would be inconsistent with the proper working of the internal market."
