All 950 of BSkyB's installation engineers are expected to start using a mobile field service solution from Idesta Solutions. The roll-out follows the completion of a three-month pilot exercise by 40 engineers in two of its installation teams.

The system will give the engineers real-time contact with their operational controllers, and is expected to reduce the paperwork currently involved in their operations.

The solution is implemented using standard components, configured to match BSkyB's exact requirements. The system is operated as a fully managed service which is hosted at Idesta data centres. This approach is said to have allowed BSkyB to prove the solution in a fraction of the time normally required for other mobile solutions.
