Translating real-time information into action
Suppose you introduce a real-time traffic monitoring system, to ensure that you can reorganise your vehicle movements to take account of road conditions. What software should you be using to translate that information into a practical response? Software house Inform, which is based in Germany but recently opened a British operation, thinks it has the answer in the form of a real-time transport optimisation and despatch system it has just launched over here. It is part of a suite of logistics and transport management systems called TESYS, which continually re-processes schedules and routes according to changing transport requirements. These could be influenced by such factors as new orders, traffic delays or other factors. The system aims to give the transport office a complete view of all vehicle movements. It advises on the most economic way to load vehicles, and presents schedules and routes on screen through easy-to-understand tables, graphs and maps. It includes full facilities for tracking and tracing, order capture and pre-planning.
Existing clients are said to include Bosch, British Airways, Edeka Supermarkets, Kuehne & Nagel, Siemens and Swiss Postal Services.
