Bespoke GSM tracking unit from Verilocation
Verilocation, one of the UK pioneers of GSM mobile-based vehicle and asset tracking, has now moved from the software business into hardware with the launch of a system called VL Tracer. The company says it is intended for tracking vehicles, containers, plant and consignments from any Web-connected PC. Central to the system is a "black box" about the size of a mobile phone, which in fact incorporates an integral GSM transceiver and SIM card. It can either be hard-wired into a vehicle's electrical system, or be self-powered by its own rechargeable battery. The location-based service of one of the mobile network operators tracks the unit by cell site, and the information is delivered to the user via the Internet. The company says it is accurate to within 100 metres under ideal conditions - standard for GSM tracking. The cost of the system is £150 in the first year and £50 per year thereafter. This includes the VL Tracer device and a Verilocation Web tracking subscription.
