Bluetooth scanner from Opticon
Seen here is the latest handheld laser gun in the Opticon range, which uses Bluetooth connectivity with its base station to allow the user freedom of movement. The company says this gives is a range of up to 40 metres - a remarkably high figure which could put the product in competition for some applications with those using more elaborate wireless networking system. The system comprises a Bluetooth scanner and either a mating charging/comms cradle or a USB Bluetooth adapter. The company says the 40-metre range is achievable with the combination of scanner and adapter in free air - which could give it particular appeal for outdoor uses. The actual scanning range is fairly good (360mm), and the device also has built-in memory so that it can retain data when out of Bluetooth range. List prices start at £529.
