Dynamic mapping smoothes integration

On-screen mapping that slots more readily into third-party tracking and location systems has been launched by Telmap, the Israel-based digital mapping specialist. The new version 4.0 of its Andromeda platform is said to allow more seamless integration than previous versions into external computer applications, opening up new opportunities for those offering location-based services.

The big change comes with what the company calls dynamic content layers. These are designed to allow software using the maps to deliver value-added services such as real-time traffic data feeds - presenting traffic on maps in the form of icons that can for instance inform drivers and operating centres of congested areas.

The upgraded platform can also integrate with weather and disaster information, says the company - highlighting flooded or snowed-in regions on the map in real time, and giving emergency services access to information fast.

Andromeda 4.0 is said to include faster routing algorithms, plus enhanced back-office capabilities, improved security control for Internet users, and advanced monitoring capabilities for administrators.

The Andromeda platform is also used by Telmap itself to support its advanced navigation and location management applications for map-based solutions. These include its Polaris off-board navigation systems for cellular phones and PDAs, and Vega solutions for fleet and workforce management and telematics applications.
