Mobile fault-finding made easy
With the proliferation of mobile devices and networks, support staff have an increasingly hard job do to in tracking down faults. A company called Chevin reckons it has come up with a compelling solution in the form of its TeVISTA PDA Manager. Through a Web-based display, it is said to allow network support staff to identify in an instant any connection point that has failed, right down to the application on the remote device. The only catch is that so far it's available only for the RIM Blackberry. But support for the Pocket PC platform is promised during the first part of this year. If you're interested in the technology behind it, the system comprises a Web-based network management console, an application called Performance Manger and another called Synthetic User software agent, which runs on both the BlackBerry handheld and the BlackBerry Network Enterprise Server.
When the BlackBerry handheld attempts to connect, TeVISTA can track the connectivity route and identify where the connection has broken down.
