Marshalls plc, the big supplier to the UK construction industry, is fitting a GPRS-based telematics solution from Cybit Holdings in its distribution fleet, as well as in vehicles of its primary subcontractors. Over 150 vehicles are involved. Cybit will also be providing ongoing technical support for five years.

Marshalls only recently acquired a new fleet of 73 tractors and state-of-the-art trailers worth a quoted £9 million. They include Daf trucks and specialist trailers from three manufacturers. Features include an automatic reverse warning system with a TV screen display in the cab.

Marshalls claims to be the UK's leading manufacturer of clay, concrete and natural stone products, serving the construction and home improvement industries. Group logistics manager Stewart Potter says the company handles up to 1,500 loads a day.

The new fleet of vehicles is being deployed at Marshalls' twelve service centres around the UK, which deliver product to customers within 72 hours.
