O2 extends its reach with new supplier relationships
Mobile network operator O2 is extending its market reach with a range of new relationships with partner-companies. One is Telepartner Systems, which has linked the deal with the launch of a new low-cost Web-based mobile data system called ServiceNet. The O2 link means the company can now offer customers both a high-quality GPRS O2 data connection and handheld devices from O2's XDA range. ServiceNet uses GPRS to transmit data to and from Pocket PC PDAs or smartphones in real time. Users pay what is described as a "small monthly charge" based on use. Another new relationship formed by O2 is with Three X, the GE telematics and mobile data subsidiary, which has joined O2's "accelerator programme". In this case it is O2 which will sell its partner's products; they have to pass a stringent range of tests before entering what is known as an "incubator process". Interestingly, in order to qualify for participation, one of the criteria a product has to meet is that it must have generated positive coverage in the specialist press. We can only hope m.logistics has helped! It must also have generated new sales, won customer approbation and increased voice communications use.
