Pre-packaged mobile applications from Orsus
If you know Orsus Solutions primarily as a provider of mobile integration resources, you might want to think again. The company has now come up with a pre-packaged wireless application that aims to deliver an integrated range of business processes to field service professionals. So now you can get a complete solution from the one company. Orsus Mobile Service includes key features such as task despatching, access to maintenance history and parts data, wireless work order completion, and remote capture of billing information and customer signatures. Also included are emergency customer call alerts and driving directions. The application is made up of pre-built business processes and templates that have been specifically designed for field service tasks, yet is said to be capable of rapid customisation and adjustment to specific workflow processes and back-end systems. Underlying all this, as you would expect, is Orsus Mobile Framework, the company's mobile integration platform. A key feature of the application is that unlike rival packages with specific back-end systems, Orsus Mobile Service is system-independent. The company says this means it can be deployed in existing corporate environments without requiring lengthy upgrade cycles or costly implementations. It supports multiple devices and includes connectors for Siebel, SAP, Web, database, XML and mainframe data. As an example of the benefits, the company says a field technician can order parts and bill the customer directly from his or her Pocket PC, even if the inventory data is stored in an SAP system and billing records are housed in a legacy mainframe system.
