Datalogics DOS handheld goes Wi-Fi

Datalogic has added Wi-Fi (802.11b) wireless connectivity to its F7400 handheld computer. The upgraded version, the 7400-E, has provision for a CompactFlash-based Wi-Fi card - a configuration that is said to minimise energy consumption.

The 7400-E also has various other upgraded features, including additional memory (now 8MB) and 8MB of Flash storage, as well as a new miniature scan engine with a scan rate of up to 50 scans/sec, 0.15 mm minimum resolution and a depth of field of 3 to 70 cm.

The 7400-E is a DOS-based unit with a 32-bit 486 processor. It is said to be idea for inventory control; goods picking, shipping and receiving; shelf price verification; and replenishment.

  • Datalogic has also announced its first Bluetooth-based barcode readers - the Gryphon BT100 and BT200. Features include a data speed of 1 Mbit/sec and a maximum rate of 720 Kbit/sec, with a decode rate of 270 scans/sec. They are compliant with Bluetooth 1.1 standard, but radio range is up to 10 metres under Bluetooth Class 2.
