Web-based navigation specialist Webraska and Psion Teklogix, the handheld computer specialist, are working together to offer in-cab audio-visual navigation information for the home delivery, courier and field service markets.

The resultant system, PsiNav Pro, runs on Psion Teklogix' Netpad handheld computer and features Webraska's SmartZone Navigation software.

PsiNav Pro extracts delivery addresses from a daily delivery schedule and generates GPS-enabled turn-by-turn navigation instructions taking the user directly to a customer's address. The SmartZone navigation software can also predict arrival times at set destinations, allowing an SMS or email message to be sent alerting customers of delivery time.

The Netpad also functions as a conventional data collection tool, to capture POD data and signatures, scan bar codes and so on.

Smartzone is available in on-board, off-board and hybrid versions. The Webraska server which delivers the navigation data can be run by the user company or hosted by Webraska.

Other features include route calculation, where customer addresses and delivery priorities are downloaded at the depot, or en route via GPRS; and an off-route alert which notifies the transport office if drivers goes off route, and provides navigational information to get them back on track. The driver does not have to wait for the complete journey to be downloaded before starting the journey.
