More flexible and practical applications for mobile mapping are promised by Mapminder.co.uk with the launch of an upgraded version of its online mapping software.

One of the key developments for logistics and field service businesses is a new feature called "business groups", which allows users to set up groups for remote staff and distribute map-related information to all of them.

Mapminder's mobile phone-based tracking system, Mapaphone, is also said to have benefited from the upgrade. It currently works with the Orange, Vodafone and O2 networks. The cost is £5 to set up the first phone, then £10 per phone (including five free location requests. Extra requests cost 20p.

Mapminder is a service of Mapbyte, a location-based services specialist, which offers a range of services over Web and mobile platforms. Its flagship Vega system offers a fully featured, real-time asset tracking, tracing and reporting solution.
