Tail-lift field management system on general release
A field service and job management package emerging from the commercial-vehicle tail-lift servicing and repair world is now being offered on the open market by a new supplier, Lamfleet Solutions. The company is an offshoot of Lambournes, a long-established South East-based tail-lift specialist, and the package was developed initially for the parent company's own use. However, it is now being offered to other tail-lift agents, and to any other users needing an affordable and targeted field service solution. Director Ellis Johnston told m.logistics the system was versatile enough to cater for anyone from a "one-man business" to an organisation with a substantial mobile work force. It includes office-based software for managing the deployment of field workers, which unusually runs under Linux, plus a mobile application running under the Pocket PC operating system. Currently the company's preferred choice for field hardware is the Gotive handheld unit. Johnston says Linux was adopted "because it's an emerging technology, and makes sophisticated functionality available for a fraction of the cost of a typical enterprise system."
