Wi-Fi wireless printing speeds Toshiba portable performance
Wi-Fi has been harnessed by printer manufacturer Toshiba TEC to add wireless capability to its 2in 203dpi thermal portable printer, the ultra-compact B-211. Renamed the B-SP2D, the new unit has both Wi-Fi 802.11b and serial infra-red interfaces, and the company says it can communicate with devices such as Pocket PC handhelds up to six times faster than its predecessor. Yet it remains compatible with B-211 B-211 software and supplies. Labels and receipts up to half a metre in length can be issued in either batch or peel-off modes. Loading the labels is handled by a "drop and close" process with a removable peel roller. The printer weighs just 410 grams including the battery, and can be worn either vertically or horizontally with the adjustable belt clip. Optional carry cases with shoulder straps are also available. The ultra-light lithium ion battery is said to allow at least 600 40mm high labels to be printed before recharging.
