Plant specialist places large home delivery contract
One of the biggest outsourced home delivery contracts this year has been placed by J Parker Dutch Bulbs, a mail order plant and bulb specialist. It has chosen Parcelnet to handle an operation reported to be costing more than £1 million a year. The agreement involves the delivery of bulbs, plants and trees to addresses throughout the UK. Parcelnet will collect orders placed via J Parker’s web site or through catalogue service from its head office in Old Trafford, Manchester. From there, consignments will enter Parcelnet’s hub and depot network for onward delivery. The operation will use Parcelnet’s two- to three-day home delivery service, taking advantage of its nationwide network of7,000 lifestyle couriers. J Parker says Parcelnet was chosen because it demonstrated its ability to provide a cost-effective home delivery solution predominantly low-cost, high-volume products.
